Career Description

Registered dietitians (R.D.) are recognized as experts on food and nutrition.They promote and maintain health, prevent or treat illness and aid rehabilitation through nutrition education and diet intervention. There are many specific types of dietitians.

Academic Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in nutrition or dietetics is required. Students may obtain a four-year degree that combines academic instruction with the necessary experience or may first earn a bachelor’s degree and then train in the field for one to two years. All programs must be approved and accredited by the American Dietetic Association.
