Behavioral Health Technician
Career Description
Behavioral health technicians work in hospital-based or freestanding psychiatric/substance abuse facilities. They function as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, interaction and role modeling for patients of all ages who have mental health or substance abuse issues. Behavioral health technicians may provide crisis intervention, educational group therapy sessions and counseling as necessary under the direction of a counselor or registered nurse.
Academic Requirements
Although requirements vary by facility, a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. In many facilities, a bachelor's degree in psychology or social work may be preferred or required.
